Ushering in the New Year with these folks and the Nirvana family may just have been the best decision I made this year. Barbecue and Bonfires were flavors of the night. Being back in the air had me grinning from ear to ear when I realized what I had been missing and how much. Soaring through clear blue skies and watching the sun set from your glider has a joy that can’t be described. And happy landings just add to that post-flight glow.

Ashwin’s Tryst with Paragliding at Shelar

It was great fun to watch every pilot take off and quickly rise above the Shelar Mountain. There were nearly 20 pilots who had already taken to the air – Rinul Pashankar, Dylan Fernandes and Hiren Savla were amongst them. It was time for Apoorva Talwalkar and Me to join them. Finally, I said to myself with a big grin, I’m going to fly.

Sunday was an amazing day. We all got pretty high. Dylan got up to 1500 and headed out as planned. He flew downwind and landed at Lonavala about 10 km as the crow flies. Some of us went to retrieve him and when he met he said with a big grin “I left the dog to die’ A phrase we picked up from Jocky Sanderson.
