We welcome Dag Ivar Hansen back once more to enjoy the air at Kamshet and the company of his pals at Nirvana Adventures & Native Place. This year he is joined by Rolf Dale, Luis Fonseca, Frode Fester, Dag Morten Synstad, Stig Petter Kalsen Kjetil Åsbakk and Ruth Rørvik also from Norway.They rocked the air on their first flying day at Shelar with Rolf and Louis aka Mickey Mouse doing a variety of synchronized acro maneuvers.I must confess that the finer nuances of the maneuvers eluded me and with my heart pounding just watching their antics I was just too slow to capture the excitement on camera.Here’s an excerpt from Mickey Mouse’s log:

Peace Bliss & Happy Landings Astrid Rao Nirvana Adventures

 A toothache can be very painful experience but when Sanjay Rao got one it turned out to have far reaching consequences. His root canal treatment led to the dentist being interested in paragliding and soon Nirvana Adventures was hosting a team of dentists who came over on the weekend to experience free flight & offer in return a free dental camp for the villagers.The camp was held at Uksaan village on the 14th of March. To start of with as anyone who has been to the dentist can imagine the kids made themselves scarce but the dentists had a trick up their sleeves – a packet of biscuits for the few who did turn up – this led to a chain reaction and soon the place was flooded with kids who had their teeth examined and were given lessons in oral hygiene – then it was the turn for the rest of the villagers. All in all a hundred people were seen to with 9 extractions done favoring old people who find it difficult to travel out to get medical help. When we packed up people were still turning up. It was a highly rewarding experience for us - and a part of our commitment to the community. the dentists all enjoyed great tandem paraglider joyrides the next day and went back to the city refreshed and happy.CSR in stylePeace Bliss & Happy Landings Astrid Rao Nirvana Adventures

If you ever drive up to Native Place on Holi day be prepared for groups of kids who will stop your car at various points demanding poss – they hold a rope across the road to stop vehicles.  Stop and give them a 10 rupee note and they squeal in excitement – this is a collection for the Holi celebrations that they have at the end of the day.

This year on Holi day we got in to Native Place after an early morning training session at Shinde Tekdi. The wind was coming in from the east in the morning again rather surprising for March but why complain about the vagaries of the weather if it means one more, great Tower flying day. We enjoyed the interaction with the children and took some great pix on the way in.

The next day it was still east and we headed to Tower Hill early in the morning. Sandeep managed to gain enough height to leave the hill and flew up to Govitri – we see him in the picture above entering Native Place feeling like a sky-god. Dwane got a great flight too and landed north of the river. All in all an exciting opening of the new season of spring

Nirvana Adventures

I have often heard pilots report sightings of wild boar, wild cats, peacocks, deer etc. while flying at Kamshet but never had any such luck myself. Steve has been talking about the peacocks and barking deer that he is able to spot from the air while flying at Tower Hill this season. He has submitted proof of the sightings and confirmed the results of his new camera.  Boys and their toys!
